Wildstar lore question
So essentially the Exiles on Nexus and in the Gambler’s Ruin are the only major ‘ones’ in existence? In terms of, there aren’t like any other large groups of Exiles flying around in the galaxy.
They’re making their stand in Nexus?
The short answer is “yes” though there are smaller groups and individuals wandering around doing their own thing.
Up until the discovery of Nexus the Exile fleet had been wandering about more or less together. The Gambler’s Ruin is the largest ship in the fleet, but it isn’t the only one. The rest of the fleet contains any number of smaller ships owned by individuals and smaller groups that are also Exiles, plus the handful of neutrals that hang out with them (recall the Ekose, Grumpel, and Lopp in the old Arkship tutorial?). When the exiled Granok left Gnox they did so in stolen Dominion ships, and there are mentions throughout the lore about smaller ships used as dwellings in much the same way the Gambler’s Ruin is. These smaller ships are also capable of leaving, as the Blue Horizon did when Dorian Walker took it to look for Nexus.
The Exiles, compared to civilizations with a home planet, are quite small in number. I feel like a number in the millions was given at one point but I can’t prove that. Understandably most of them like to stick together. However that doesn’t mean that every Exile is in the fleet (and Nexus, by extension). Exile races can be seen among the Darkspur Cartel and Marauder bands, especially humans. They’re also common in C.o.G.S.
As for the threat of Dominion reinforcements, those on Nexus would really like some help but the truth is they won’t be getting it anytime soon. Teleportation technology is relatively short range (mostly orbit to planet, the Eldan transmats are a bit longer but only exist on Nexus and nobody knows how they work) and even the fastest ships still take a deliberately unstated but very long length of time to get from Cassus to Nexus. It’s implied to take years to make the trip, which is why the Fringe is so uninhabited for the most part.
While there isn’t anything to imply that there are any significantly large groups of true Exiles out there, it should be noted that the Exiles have connections that they may be able to win over to their side. The majority of the surviving non-humans are sticking around Nexus, but there technically are still Granok and Aurin on their homeworlds as well. And then there are the neutral races. While I can’t see Protostar ever siding exclusively with anyone, it’s entirely possible for individuals at least from the other races to choose a side. Currently people like Ekose and Lopp are allowed to deal with both sides, but attempts have been made at swaying them. They could go Dominion, or they could go Exile. Even the Freebots who tend to love everyone have opinions and remember how they’ve been treated, with some individuals showing distinct leanings towards one or the other.
In short, don’t count your ash hens before they hatch!
Thank you for your answer! That clears a lot of things up for me. :’ D
I ask this question because as I haven’t seen any expansions besides Arcterra in my time playing WS I was wondering if it would come to the point that Exile and Dominion would have to shed their differences aside to fight against the Strain.
Considering, and I guess it’s safe to assume, that it will be the largest threat and enemy for either side to face since the Entity’s purpose is to dominate the galaxy with its influence.
@mecharina, @wildstar-unofficial One thing that confuses me is that in Wildstar on multiple cases, including trailers they reffer to the exiles as having a ‘’fleet’’, But in other times they mention that the Gamblers ruin is the only ship the exiles have.
I also once saw a post on the wildstar reddit in which a user concluded that the Gamblers Ruin as an older dominion warship is roughly the size of a Imperial Star Destroyer from star wars, if this is correct, the Gamblers Ruin could not possibly serve as a ‘’arkship’’ as it is too small.
The Gambler’s Ruin is the only arkship, which is a unique class of ship that can house many people, however it is not the only ship.
The Exile fleet has always been referred to as such in official lore, since at least launch. You can even see additional ships surrounding the Gambler’s Ruin in cutscenes. It’s also implied to be ridiculously huge in said cutscenes, as you generally only see teeny little ships around the big honking front end – however, the bow is the narrowest part!
As far as its size, there isn’t any indication that there have been any significant changes to Dominion arkship design since the time of the Star of Dominus being built, so its age has little bearing on guessing its size. Also, it is indeed an arkship and has always been an arkship, it is not nor has it ever been a warship. Beyond that, all we know for sure is that it is large enough to house an undisclosed-but-large number of people going about their lives, plus an additional large number of people in cryosleep. There is no real basis for comparison to anything else, though we do have to assume it is at least a few miles long because it is too large to efficiently land on a planet and houses so many people.
