The official forum is getting a software upgrade! It’s certainly a long time coming, as the forum software currently in use has had more than its share of troubles over the years and still has a tendency to log users off randomly.
I know you’re all waiting for an update on the game itself, but take heart: while a forum upgrade isn’t terribly exciting by itself, perhaps it’s a fore gleam of more important things to come?
Curiously, scanbot has discovered that Aurin of either sex can grow facial hair – but unlike many biological species, this growth is not involuntary. This means that both male and female Aurin may voluntarily grow such facial hair at any time, and at a prodigious rate! Oh, the bearded Aurin ladies scanbot has seen in old-fashioned holo-films of questionable provenance! Seriously, user would not believe the things scanbot has seen. Things like that.
Unfortunately for the Aurin and Aurin-curious, facial hair long ago fell out of fashion, so much so that it is now considered taboo for Aurin to grow beards or moustaches. Sideburns ARE socially acceptable, scanbot has learned, provided the Aurin’s hair is long enough to cover it in all situations.
Most of it’s in the Wildstar official timeline, then the specification on how long the Aurin were in contact and trading with the Exiles before the Ravaging began comes from this post by the current loremaster, CarbineGary. And is fairly on-point with much older fan estimations that tacked on about four more years than he estimated. This establishes that Exiles and the Aurin met and established their trade with each other somewhere between 1640 and 1646.
Then the Dominion used the Exile tech that the Aurin were using as confirmation that the Aurin had been aiding the Exiles after Chua ships had found Arboria by backtracking an Exile ship’s paths. The Ravaging began in 1656, and is still ongoing. But the majority of the Aurin species evacuated the planet with help from the Exile fleet in 1658. This same year, Drusera led Dorian Walker to Nexus and he sent out the message so people started flocking there. Nexus is about a two-year trip from the established worlds, according to Pappy and Gary. And the Arkships with the player on them only just arrived in 1665.
So there’s a 7 year period of the Aurin being in the Exile fleet between the exodus from Arboria and arrival on Nexus. Five years of being awake and active on the fleet for those who did go into cryo. During that time, Aurin revolutionized Exile farming technique and introduced Granok to the concept of having “hair” according to Loremageddon. So they weren’t just there, they were regularly interacting with the other Exiles and the fleet and quickly influencing Exile culture.
As for the black and white footage bit, I don’t remember if it was from an in-game journal or a lore drop from “Scanbot” back when Carbine was maintaining an active Tumblr page, but it’s mentioned in the same entry that mentions Aurin of any sex can grow facial hair and can in fact grow their hair at will- facial hair has just been out of vogue for years while sideburns are in. Looking up Wildstar Official on Tumblr, seems they’ve completely taken that down now. =/ So here’s to hoping it wasn’t there. Pity on several levels, they had a lot of jokes and shit up on there including these “Wildstar Personals” ads and a bunch of posts from the perspective of a pissy scanbot.
Regardless, check out CarbineGary’s “tweets & replies” on Twitter, and Wildstar’s Loremageddon pages. The big one is here, but there were also several entries not featured on that page that were made on the forums under the Loremageddon banner back in 2014 and 2015, you might be able to find them scrounging through the official Wildstar lore forum. But the Q&A Loremageddons have been dropped from the official Loremageddon page in favor of a cleaner/more organized thing that no longer contains like, half the answers they’d given from the Q&A’s. =/
Sadly, Wildstar’s in a bit of a sorry state when it comes to trying to find things. Lots of official Wildstar content is just- completely gone. Even pre-release in-character interviews with characters like Mondo Zax and Sarge. And the old online comic about Mondo Zax and Lazarus cordially/casually keeping in touch with each other while making their own creations of mayhem to release on each other’s factions. Which also featured what may have been the death of Liara, the Aurin from the first cinematic trailer who landed with Sarge the Granok.
Unfortunately the Aurin facial hair thing was indeed on the official Tumblr. You can probably dig the post up as a reblog with some fancy Googling, but yeah it’s not actually on their blog anymore. If folks want to see some of the old “fun stuff” posts, let us know and we’ll see what we can pull up.
Some people assume that the Ask Scanbot sections should be taken with a grain of salt, as the scanbot in question did have a tendency to exaggerate. Still, it was on an official page.
